UsesZYLORIC is used for treating gout. It is used to treat high uric acid levels in the blood or urine caused by certain types of cancer chemotherapy. It is also used to treat certain patients with calcium oxalate kidney stones and high amounts of uric acid in the urine. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. How to takeTake ZYLORIC by mouth after meals to decrease stomach upset. Side effectsStomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, unusual taste, acute gouty attacks, or drowsiness may occur as your body adjusts to this medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: easy bleeding/bruising, signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat), change in the amount of urine, yellowing eyes or skin, severe stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea/vomiting/lack of appetite, dark urine, unusual tiredness, unusual weight loss. This drug may rarely cause very serious (possibly fatal) allergic reactions. Stop taking ZYLORIC and seek immediate medical attention if any of these allergic reaction symptoms occur: skin rash, hives, itching, swelling (especially of the lips or mouth), dizziness, pain when urinating, blood in the urine, unusual eye redness/pain, fever and chills, muscle/joint pain, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. This drug should not be used with the following medication because very serious interactions may occur: didanosine. If you are currently using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting ZYLORIC. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: certain antibiotics (amoxicillin, ampicillin), certain asthma drugs (aminophylline, theophylline), azathioprine, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), chlorpropamide, cyclosporine, mercaptopurine, sulfinpyrazone, "water pills" (e.g., thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide). Missed doseTake the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. StorageStore at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
